Cost performance of Mega Projects: The case of the Sydney Opera House’ in Australia and discuss about the trends and developments in the quantity surveying profession.

The presentation will examine the fascinating and complex world of mega projects, focusing on one of the most iconic structures of the 20th century: the Sydney Opera House. This presentation will explore the cost performance of this monumental project, examining the financial, political, and engineering challenges that shaped its journey from conception to completion.

The Sydney Opera House is celebrated as an architectural marvel and a symbol of Australia’s cultural identity. However, its construction was fraught with controversy, primarily due to significant cost overruns and delays. The presentation will analyse the factors that contributed to these cost escalations, including the groundbreaking design, the engineering hurdles, and the shifting political landscape.

The Sydney Opera House was one of the most complicated and demanding projects of its time, but the challenges it faced are still present in modern megaprojects. The presentation will provide useful insights into the cost performance of megaprojects, which can then be applied to future projects. The Sydney Opera House was one of the most complicated and demanding projects of its time, but the challenges it faced are still present in modern megaprojects.
